The Outer Banks Area
The name "OBX", so the story goes, was first coined by surfers
when referring to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and has since
become synonymous with the area.
What makes the Outer Banks so
popular? Here is our special look into the wonderful area known as
"OBX"
Whether
your preference is long boarding or short boarding, the ocean is your
playground if you're a surfer. The surf conditions at the local
beaches
offer the sort of variety that can encourage a novice or satisfy a
pro.

The unspoiled
beaches on Hatteras Island have been rated as one of ten best on
the east coast by US News.
Relaxing at the beach is easy, whether you walk out using one of
our many public access walkways, drive and park your
car at the Kinnakeet Shores Ocean Beach facility or take your four
wheel drive vehicle onto the beach to find the perfect spot.

The natural beauty of the area will charge your batteries and
provide many photo opportunities. At night, the lack of light
pollution will inspire a midnight stroll on the beach as you take
in the breathtaking star filled skies.

When
morning comes, greet the day along with the sunrise.
Only one per day and no two are alike!
If you sleep in and miss a sunrise, no worries! Only on the Outer
Banks can you view a sunrise and a sunset all with traveling less
than a mile. Even less effort is needed if you decide to view a
sunrise or sunset from the Decks or Loft Of DESTINY.

Do you enjoy
fishing?
DESTINY is walking distance to the Avon Pier and a short drive to
the docks of some of the best Charter Boats on the East Coast.
Once on board, you're just minutes away from the Gulf Stream and
some great fishing stories! Maybe you'd prefer to four wheel on
the beach and find some great places, like Cape Point, to cast in
the surf. Of course you can just relax at home where the bass
fishing is always
excellent on the lake at DESTINY
How
about windsurfing?
The "Canadian Hole", so named because of it's
popularity with our neighbors to the north, is one of the best
windsurfing and kiteboarding locations on the East Coast, and only
a stone's throw from the doorstep of DESTINY.

Do you like
History? The Outer banks is steeped in history. From the Civil
War, to Pirates and ship wrecks. From the First Flight of Aviation
to unbelievable tales of bravery from early life saving stations
and the men who manned them.
Four
Wheeling to Cape Point to fish in the surf is a popular activity.
Maybe if you are lucky you'll come across an uncovered shipwreck
as we did here. Metal detectors are great fun and permitted
in the public beach areas.
The Cape
Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on the East Coast.
Located just a short drive from DESTINY, a visit to the recently
relocated and renovated lighthouse and museum will add an
unforgettable chapter in your visit to DESTINY and the Outer
Banks.

The entrance
to the free Ferry ride to Ocracoke Island is just a few minutes
drive from DESTINY. Take a bag of popcorn for feeding the seagulls
during the ride and watch the smiles on your children's faces from
an experience that will last a lifetime. (Please use unsalted,
unbuttered popcorn. It's better for the birds.)
But... the
number one reason you'll enjoy your stay at DESTINY is the
unspoiled beaches! And here's another "secret" about the
Outer Banks. The locals are still beachcombing in shorts in
October, making a fall visit a great option as well as summertime.
It's time to meet your vacation DESTINY!
To the beautiful Spanish Mustang Ponies of the Outer Banks you will need a 4X4 and have lots of spare cash to give the tow truck guy when you get stuck! Guided horse tours of the northern beaches are available via Bob's Wild Horse Tours
